From monogrammed bedsheets to a string of top-end kitchens, the furnishing of cluster properties has become its own micro-market, and interior firms are keen to cash in.
As the super-rich buy up their network of town houses and apartments, specialist furniture and interior design companies are called in to create a sense of uniformity across the portfolio.
Sometimes buyers will want all their flats finished in the same way and they can get very specific, right down to different monogrammed linen for different bedrooms, says Shirley Humphrey, head of Harrods estates residential development and investment department.
As well as helping buyers find the right properties, Harrods offers interior design and concierge services. We offer clients a 360-degree service, so if they want to have flowers on the kitchen table when they arrive home, we can arrange it, Humphrey adds.
Meanwhile, David Phillips, a furniture provider, has recently been asked to find furniture solutions for kitting out multiple properties with upmarket tables, chairs and desks. Andrew Clark, the companys sales director, says that in spite of the slowdown in spending, the demand from south-east Asia continues to generate a healthy workload throughout the recession.
